Letter sent home August 22, 2018 Dear Parents,

Thank you for your support and assistance in getting the school year off to a smooth start.  Our entire staff is excited to work with you and our students in making this school year a positive experience for all.

You might be having the same concerns we are experiencing with the current humidity and extreme heat.  As such, we wanted to share some of the measures we are taking to ensure the health and safety of all students.  

  • We are opening classrooms during lunch recess for students who choose to remain indoors.
  • Recess and P.E. are being held indoors, with students engaging in exercise videos (i.e, Zumba), physical movement activities, games, etc.
  • Water is being provided to students after school, as they wait for pick up.
  • Bus students are waiting inside the multipurpose room.
  • Students are asked to remain under shade structures when transitioning between classroom and the cafeteriaThe health and wellness of our students is a priority, and we are taking every precaution to ensure their safety.

Estimados Padres,

Gracias por su apoyo para que el año escolar tenga un buen comienzo.  Todo nuestra personal está emocionado de trabajar con usted y nuestros estudiantes para hacer de este año escolar una experiencia positiva para todos.

Es posible que tenga las mismas preocupaciones que nosotros referente a la humedad actual y el calor extremo que estamos experimentando.  Como tal, queremos compartir algunas de las medidas que estamos tomando para garantizar la salud y la seguridad de todos los estudiantes.

  • Estamos abriendo salones durante el receso del almuerzo para los estudiantes que elijan permanecer adentro.
  • El receso y educación física se llevan a cabo dentro del salón, con estudiantes participando en videos de ejercicios (es decir Zumba), actividades de movimiento físico, juegos, etc.
  • Se está brindado agua a los estudiantes después de la escuela, mientras esperan que los recojan.
  • Los estudiantes de autobús están esperando dentro del salón multiusos.
  • Se les pide a los estudiantes que permanezcan bajo estructuras de sombra cuando hacen la transición entre el salón de clases y cafetería.

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Welcome Heber Hawk Families!

On behalf of the faculty and staff, I hope you have enjoyed a restful and relaxing summer!   As I begin my second year as principal at Heber School, I am particularly grateful for the community support and am eager to see you again on the first day of school, Monday, August 20, 2018.   I am excited to introduce Ms. Darlene Herrera as our new Assistant Principal.  Ms. Herrera brings 17 years of teaching experience as a Heber Hawk teacher and is excited to continue supporting our mission to ensure all students learn in an academically enriched, safe, and nurturing environment.

We have been very busy preparing for the upcoming school year. Our custodians have done a phenomenal job preparing the classrooms, buildings, and school grounds. Our teachers and support staff have also worked diligently to ensure the best possible learning environment is offered to every student.  We are proud and excited to launch the 2018-2019 school year with our incredibly talented and dedicated teaching staff and your ongoing support and partnership!

School Hours 8:10 - 2:45 Regular Day (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday)

8:10 - 1:00 Early Release (Wednesday)

8:05 a.m. Warning Bell
8:10 a.m. Students seated in classroom
7:00 a.m. Gates Open

First Day of School August 20, 2018-- Early Release; students will be dismissed at 1:00 p.m.                             

Breakfast & Lunch Hot breakfast is offered in the cafeteria from 7:00 – 8:00 a.m.  Second Chance Breakfast “Grab and go” bags will be offered during recess to students who missed breakfast. Both breakfast and lunch are free of charge.

Traffic & Parking   Student Safety is our #1 Priority and we would greatly appreciate your support of our drop off and pick up procedures.  The first few days of school are generally very busy; We thank you in advance for your patience as we ensure all 650+ students get to and from school safely.  Please plan accordingly.

ALL students are to be dropped-off and picked-up at the 11th Street entrance. Please do not drop-off or pick-up students in front of the school office or bus area.   When dropping-off or picking-up students, please pull all the way forward. Students may exit anywhere along the sidewalk closest to the school.

In following Imperial County’s regulations, the only official crosswalks to Heber School are  located on the corner of 11th Street and Heber Avenue, as well as the corner of Main Street and Heber Avenue.  Students walking to school or being dropped-off in nearby locations must use these crosswalks.

Campus Visitors We value family and community engagement in our school. For the safety of all students, beginning August 21, parents will need to get a visitor’s pass from the office to walk onto campus.  Our school uses the RAPTOR system to screen visitors. Please be prepared to show a photo ID. The pass expires when the warning bell rings at 8:05 a.m. Attendance Providing high quality teaching and learning is one of our core values.  In keeping this commitment, we ask parents to make every effort possible to ensure their child is present all day and on time.  When parents request, many medical offices will adjust appointments to accommodate a child’s school schedule. If you must pick up your child before the regularly scheduled release time, please be prepared for a wait time of 20 - 30 minutes if the office is extra busy. To avoid interrupting the learning of others in the classroom, the  administrator or next available office staff will personally pick up your child. At Heber School we value family and community engagement, as we are committed to building and maintaining strong, positive, and supportive relationships between the school and the hard-working Heber families.  Our dedicated staff continually seeks ways to incorporate best safety and academic practices to benefit students. We need your voice to continue providing each and every child with the knowledge and skills necessary to become community leaders and contributors. Parents are always welcome at Heber School and we invite you to join the School Site Council, English Learner Advisory Council, volunteer in the classroom, or participate in one of the many events or activities that make our school a special place for our children to learn.  We look forward to an amazing school year!
